Peoplehood Parade!

What:

Homecoming not your thing, but still want to spend some fun time outdoors in this beautiful, chilly day?  How about attending one of West Philly’s most loved yearly traditions?

The Peoplehood is a carnival-style parade from the Paul Robeson House (50th and Walnut Streets) to Clark Park (45th and Kingsessing Streets).  You can find the itinerary below.  It is a unique celebration of change-makers, artists, activists, and families fighting for a better tomorrow.  Organizations and neighbors get together to represent who they are and what they stand for, parading with art they've made themselves or joining the art of other folks.  It allows participants to express their creativity and civic concerns while taking to the streets to celebrate Philadelphia’s greatest strength: its diversity. Some of the confirmed participating groups are: Acarajé Afro-Brazilian Bloco, ACT-UP Philly, Caucus of Working Educators, César Andreu Iglesias Community Garden, PA Youth Vote, The Paul Robeson House, Philadelphia BDS, Philly DSA, RECLAIM Philadelphia, Shut Down Berks Coalition, Support Amazon Workers, Trans March Philly, West Powelton Drum Squad & Steppers, Workers Revolutionary Collective, YAP (Young Artist Program), and Youth Volunteer Corps.

Parade begins at 1pm.  Individuals and small groups are invited to participate in the parade by walking as themselves, or by carrying their own homemade artwork, costumes, flags, and/or banners.  But it can also be as simple as waving and cheering up as they pass by or attending their short performances and art-making at Clark Park around 2:30pm –which is what we’ll be doing.

We are thinking of leaving from KCECH’s main entrance at 1:00pm, walking west along Baltimore Avenue, attending the final portion of the parade, and hanging out in the park for a bit. RSVP (lleon@upenn.edu or omontoya@upenn.edu) appreciated but not required; you can simply show up at the entrance! ;)

When:

Saturday November 6th, 2021 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
