We have officially run out of Studio Ghibli films! But let's continue with the spirit of our Ghibli Movie Nights by watching some other wonderful anime that Hayao Miyazaki himself would have been proud to conceive and direct!

This Friday we will be screening Makoto Shinkai's lovely 天気の子,Tenki no Ko ("Child of Weather", marketed as "Weathering With You", 2019), produced by CoMix Wave Films, and featuring collaborations from some people who had previously worked in "Your Name". For example, its orchestral score and soundtrack was again composed by J-pop band Radwimps. The film won a myriad of awards, and became the highest grossing Japanese film of 2019 and the seventh highest-grossing anime film of all time.

It follows a 16-year-old high school boy, Hodaka Morishima, who runs away from his troubled rural home to Tokyo, and later befriends Hina Amano, an orphaned girl who has the ability to control the weather. I can't say much more without spoiling the story! I will just add that your beloved characters Mitsuha and Taki from "Your Name" make a brief appearance in this film! 😉🥰
