Renewable Energy Workshop (Day 1)

What:

Co-sponsored by STWing and Biosphere, KCECH will be offering a 3-day workshop on Renewable Energy. Each session will last approximately one hour. The agenda for the workshop is as follows:

  • Thursday January 30th: Movie presentation of “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” and an introduction to the physics and technology related to photo-voltaic energy.
  • Thursday February 6th: Continuation of photo-voltaic energy and introduction of Eolic (wind) energy.
  • Thursday February 13th: Introduction to low head hydroelectric energy and discussion / demonstration of hardware.

We will explore the key components of photovoltaic, wind, and hydroelectric systems. We will examine photovoltaic, or PV, system components, and the scientific laws essential to understanding how renewable energy systems work. We will discuss wind energy and low-head hydroelectric systems, focusing on small-scale implementations. During our exploration of these systems, we will focus on safety and regulating bodies that guide proper system design.
